Sunday Hymn: Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul's Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven's joys, O bright Heaven's Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

A bit of background about this hymn can be found here.
You can listen to this hymn here.
Two of my favorite recordings of it are by Selah, and by Sandi Patty on her new cd, "Songs for the Journey."

This photo was taken by my daughter during our trip to southern France in 2006. It was taken in St. Paul de Vence, a beautiful medieval walled village. I love this picture because even through a massive wall, you can see a glimpse of the villages below, and see light and life beyond it. When we have God as our vision, no matter what wall we find ourselves facing, He will help us find a way to see beyond it... to see light and hope on the other side.

It is a beautiful photo Cyndi - so appropriate for this beautiful hymn. I thought you might be interested in this blog: http://audreycaroline.blogspot.com/ It is written by the wife of one of the members of Selah. They are going through a very difficult time right now.
Oh how we love the old hymns. I'm so glad we haven't forgotten them.
Have a blessed sunday dear friend.

One of my favorite hymns...it was sung at my best friend's funeral about 7 years ago. We sang it last Sunday at church as well. Have you heard Ginny Owens version? It's excellent and poignant, since she is blind.
